Rays Will Listen To Offers For Chris Archer, Alex Colome

Sep 26, 2017 9:08 AM

The starting rotation is expected to look different for the Tampa Bay Rays next season.

"There seems to be an assumption that Jake Odorizzi will be dealt, and they'll at least listen, as usual, on Chris Archer," writes Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

In addition, Alex Cobb will be leaving as a free agent.

Blake Snell, Nate Eovaldi, Matt Andriese and Jake Faria will likely be in the rotation to begin the season with Faria on the outside looking in if both Archer and Odorizzi are retained.

The Rays will also listen to offers for reliever Alex Colome.

Alex Cobb Doesn't Want To Think About Leaving Rays

Sep 18, 2017 8:18 AM

Alex Cobb will be a free agent this winter and his next two starts will come on the road, which means Saturday's start was likely his last in a Tampa Bay Rays uniform at Tropicana Field.

"If it is, man, it would be sad," Cobb said going into Saturday's contest. "There's been a lot of memories in this building and through this organization. I don't really want to think about it yet. There is too much season left to go down that road yet. But it would be a tough thought if that's it."

Cobb has made 58 starts at the Trop and has known nothing but the Rays way since joining the organization in 2006 as a fourth-round pick from Vero Beach High.

"I think we've come to expect a lot from him, and deservedly so," Evan Longoria said. "In the time he's been healthy and out there, he's pitched like an ace for us. He has that mentality, too. He's a bulldog on the mound. I'm sure you've heard that from other people. He's as fierce a competitor on his start day as anybody I've ever been around. It's always nice to play behind guys like that."

Giancarlo Stanton Not Worried About Possible Trade From Marlins

Sep 14, 2017 8:43 AM

The Miami Marlins will soon be under new ownership and may be compelled to shop Giancarlo Stanton and his massive contract on the trade market.

Stanton's deal, which has 10 years and $295 million remaining, carries a full no-trade clause. The Marlins had the highest payroll in franchise history on Opening Day and will rank last in the National League in attendance for the fifth straight year.

There are rumors that Stanton may be tempted by a trade to a bigger market like New York, Los Angeles, Boston or even Philadelphia.

"Honestly, I've seen just about everything around here," Stanton said. "So I'm not worried. I'm literally just worried about tomorrow, the next hour. I know how everything works around here, so I'm not surprised, and not worried about two months from now or the off-season. I'll just be ready when I need to be, because that's more distractions that I don't need."
